Job description

Position Objective:

To develop and implement successful major gift and gift planning fund-raising strategies for individual and face-to-face solicitation of PETA Netherlands donors

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:  Major Gifts and Gift Planning Director, PETA UK

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of high value donors for PETA Netherlands to increase their giving and commitment to the organization and animal protection
  • Identify and research appropriate "cases for giving" for assigned and targeted donors
  • Cultivate relationships with both assigned donors  as well as unassigned but  prospective donors
  • Solicit high-value financial donations from assigned and prospective donors.  Develop and institute strategies for the portfolio on formalized giving levels, donor recognition strategies and other techniques which might be used to increase donor giving and long term financial support
  • Develop a mid-level giving programme for donors who are not assigned but whose giving history indicates a possibility of increased giving
  • Develop marketing strategies and materials for PETA NL's planned-giving programme
  • Cultivate, solicit and steward donors for PETA NL's planned-giving programme
  • Maintain regular contact with donors in the assigned portfolio and act as a professional contact for them
  • Document pertinent information for the purpose of enhancing and developing donor profiles for the major gifts and gift planning database
  • Stay current on effective and cutting-edge fund-raising techniques and attend professional trainings and seminars as requested
  • Stay current on animal rights issues in general, and maintain a clear understanding of and ability to articulate the objectives of the organisation and details specific to PETA NL and its affiliates’ programmes
  • Research and solicit special trusts and corporate donations, as requested by the supervisor
  • Manage responses to inquiries about third-party events and fundraising
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

 

Candidate requirements

  • Proven experience with major-gifts non-profit fund-raising required, including a track record of successful solicitation of gifts at the €5K level and above
  • Experience of soliciting legacies and planned gifts is desirable
  • Extensive knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
  • Excellent project-management, strategic-thinking and analytical skills
  • Exceptional persuasive and explanatory written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, members and supporters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Dutch and English
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and an extremely high level of ethical conduct at all times
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a vegan lifestyle
  • Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues and current events
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation.
