Description:

Scope of the work

This full-time position based in Stockholm is a regional role responsible for developing the long term legacy strategy together with the Fundraising Management as well as implementation of the strategy across the region (Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway). The role is also responsible for expanding the Middle Donor programme and donor event management. In close collaboration with Donor Relationships & marketing and Donor care teams you ensure legacy communication to our existing donors.
The Legacy Officer is responsible to grow and maximise Legacy income by ensuring donors are aware of, inspired to and engaged in the idea of Legacy giving. The role’s responsibilities include proactive marketing of acquisition, prospecting, development and maintenance of donors in our Legacy pipeline and will ensure high levels of quality donor care and careful stewardship of the gifts we receive—helping to create a diverse and secure fundraising base for Greenpeace.

Main Responsibilities

Planning, Reporting and Budget Management
● Develop annual plans and income and expenditure budgets.
● Develop together with the Fundraising Director and Deputy FR Director the long term vision and strategy for legacy giving
● Implementation of the long term strategic plans across the region as agreed with Line manager and each local Fundraising Manager on the task split,
● Develop benchmarks across program areas.
● Develop and be responsible for weekly, monthly and campaign reporting
● Manage budgets in accordance with strategy.

Program implementation
● Utilise a variety of marketing techniques to develop and implement a central programme of communications (both internally and externally) to maximise the number and value of legacies left in favour of Greenpeace, ensuring activities are delivered on time, on brand and on budget.
● Ensure effective data segmentation is maximised to enhance our targeting and reach donors in the most cost effective way.
● Oversee the effective stewardship of legacy pledgers, enquirers and intenders including responding to telephone calls, letters and other means of contact and fulfi lling information requests.
● Employ a range of techniques to build relationships with individuals, including face to face meetings and events in Sweden while ensuring best practices are shared with colleagues responsible for donor stewardship in other Nordic countries.
● Work with developing the Middle Donor programme by ensuring personalized approaches by mail, phone and in person to maximize income.
● Plan and implement appropriate recognition to safeguard the gifts already made to us through implementing a maintenance program so donors feel recognised, valued, informed and connected.
● Liaise with the Donor Care and the Relationship Marketing Teams to ensure they have the tools, knowledge and confi dence to be able to promote legacies in all Nordic markets.
● Work with the Donor Care, Digital Fundraising and the Relationships Marketing teams to ensure marketing campaigns are run effectively in Denmark, Norway and Finland.
● Work with the Digital Fundraising Team to further develop in memoriam/tribute giving and implement operational plans.
● Raise awareness of Greenpeace’s work and develop relationships with solicitors and other professionals involved in the will making process through mailings, events and/or workshops to ensure engagement and maximise fundraising opportunities.
Program Administration
● Maintain accurate records of all pledgers, intenders and enquirers so agreed standards are met.
● Liaise with Fundraising Managers, Finance department, and Line Manager to ensure timely and effective administration of legacies and work with solicitors and families to ensure the value of bequests is maximised.
● Authorise expenditure of the allocated program budget, according to agreed objectives and in accordance with budget authority.
● Represent the organisation in incoming inheritance distribution and estate inventories.


Internal Awareness
● To devise and implement an internal communications plan that delivers key messages, stories and information sharing to build and maintain legacies profi le within Greenpeace
● Provide staff with key phrases so that legacies are integrated into all GP activities wherever possible.
● Devise methodology to understand and overcome internal barriers to promotion.

External Awareness
● Maintain knowledge of the overall testamentary and legacy environment (including legal) in each country.
● Maintain knowledge of other Greenpeace offices and other NGOs legacy programs.
● Keep abreast of legacy giving trends and the legacy giving market, and keep up to date with all relevant charity law, regulations and codes of practice.

Other
● Travel both across the Nordic as well internationally is a requirement of the role.
● Be able to undertake occasional evening and weekend work.
● Manage any volunteers or interns if applicable.
● Cover for the line manager and other team members in their absence, in order to ensure the team continues to implement ongoing work
● Participate in weekly office and other meetings in the department or all Nordic staff meetings
● Undertake any other duties, appropriate to the position, as delegated by the line manager, upholding a principle that at least 20% of the working time can be expected to be used on work outside one’s own area.

Qualifications (Knowledge and skills needed in this position)

● At least 3 years experience in Legacy and or Middle/Major Gifts Fundraising or Direct Marketing
● Experience in working with and understanding of inheritance distribution and estate inventories and local legislation
● Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or other associated fi eld and /or equivalent work experience.
● Experience in managing high volume fundraising programs
● Fundraising or sales copywriting experience.
● Exemplary organizational skills, including the ability to set priorities, manage projects, track information, work to a timeline and achieve targeted goals.
● Good communication skills across different channels and departments, including strong listening and negotiation skills
● Knowledge of Data Analysis and Segmentation
● Capacity to prepare and present fundraising strategy and reports
● Fluent in Swedish, excellent English, other Nordic languages is an advantage
