The Sepsis Stiftung, a foundation with headquarters in Berlin, is a member of the Global Sepsis Alliance, an umbrella organization of more than 100 member institutions worldwide with the mission of providing leadership to reduce the burden of sepsis. Approximately 50 million people come down with sepsis every year, with approximately 13,7 million succumbing to the illness. Nevertheless, sepsis is practically unknown to the wider public. With greater awareness, many sepsis-triggered deaths and cases of illness in Germany could be prevented. It is, thus, the overarching goal of the Stiftung to reduce the number of deaths associated with the illness, to educate government officials, healthcare workers, and civil society in pursuit of the mission to become a driver for change in the health sector.  

Die Sepsis Stiftung mit Sitz in Berlin ist Mitglied der Global Sepsis Alliance, einer Dachorganisation von mehr als 100 Institutionen weltweit, welches sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, die Belastung durch Sepsis zu reduzieren. Ungefähr 50 Millionen Menschen erkranken jährlich an Sepsis, 13,7 Millionen erliegen der Krankheit. Dennoch ist Sepsis in der breiteren Öffentlichkeit nahezu unbekannt. Allerdings könnten viele der durch Sepsis verursachten Krankheits- und Todesfälle in Deutschland durch Sensibilisierungsmaßnahmen verhindert werden. Es ist daher das übergeordnete Ziel der Stiftung, die Zahl der Todesfälle im Zusammenhang mit der Krankheit zu reduzieren, und verstärkt Aufklärung in Politik und Gesellschaft sowie im Gesundheitswesen zu betreiben, um Veränderungen im Gesundheitssektor anzustoßen.  

The incoming Managing Director will be responsible for the day-to-day management and strategy of the Stiftung, for its projects and funding sources as well as its donor relations. The successful candidate will holistically advance the national sepsis education and awareness through advocacy at specialist events and frequent targeted communication with different stakeholder groups, among them patients, politicians, and medical professionals to increase the awareness of sepsis as a health threat. By working closely with the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees - while being supported by a small but motivated team - the individual will increase the visibility of the organization and drive its impact via innovative projects, communication, and social media campaigns. 

Die Geschäftsleitung wird für das Tagesgeschäft und die Strategie der Stiftung, für ihre Projekte und Finanzierungsquellen sowie für ihre Spendenbeziehungen verantwortlich sein. Sie wird durch Auftritte bei Fachveranstaltungen und durch gezielte Kommunikation mit unterschiedlichen Interessen- und Zielgruppen, darunter Patient*Innen, Politiker*Innen und medizinischem Fachpersonal, das Bewusstsein für Sepsis als medizinischen Notfall ganzheitlich schärfen.

Durch die enge Zusammenarbeit der Geschäftsleitung mit dem Vorstand und dem Kuratorium - unterstützt von einem kleinen, aber motivierten Team - wird die Sichtbarkeit der Organisation und ihr gesellschaftlicher Mehrwert durch innovative Projekte, Kommunikation und Social-Media-Kampagnen vorangetrieben.

The successful candidate will bring a solid understanding of the German health system, an understanding of the medical field and/or experience in the foundation/NPO sector with a health focus. Empathy, energy, communication skills as well as a combination of strategic and operational skills are key to successfully engaging a wide range of stakeholders on a regional, national, and international level. Experience with resource mobilization, an excellent track record in donor relationship management and/or key account management as well as lobbying is a prerequisite, as is native or near native competence in both German and English. The Managing Director will further possess an inclusive and respectful leadership style, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as a strong desire and drive to trigger positive change. A start-up mentality, grit, perseverance and resilience when faced with setbacks are an absolute must.

Der/die zukünftige Stelleninhaber*in sollte einen (sehr) guten Überblick über das deutsche Gesundheitssystem, ein Verständnis für den medizinischen Bereich und/oder Erfahrung im Stiftungs-/NPO-Sektor haben - idealerweise mit Schwerpunkt im medizinischen Bereich. Empathie, Energie, Kommunikationsstärke sowie die Fähigkeit, strategische und operative Aufgaben zu meistern, sind für die erfolgreiche Einbindung einer Vielzahl von Stakeholdern auf regionaler, nationaler und internationaler Ebene ausschlaggebend.

Langjährige Erfahrung in der Ressourcenmobilisierung, Expertise im Donor Relationship Management und/oder Key Account Management sowie in der Lobbyarbeit sind Voraussetzung, ebenso wie muttersprachliche oder nahezu muttersprachliche Kompetenz in Deutsch und Englisch. Ebenfalls vorausgestzt wird ein integrativer und respektvoller Führungsstil, sowie Engagement für Vielfalt, Gleichberechtigung und Inklusion zur nachhaltigen Veränderung. Eine Start-up-Mentalität, Mut, Durchhaltevermögen und Resilienz bei etwaigen Rückschlägen sind ein absolutes Muss.
