Description:

As Head of Fundraising & Marketing, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future growth and reach of ROTE NASEN. You will oversee a seven-figure annual budget and lead a dedicated team of eight, bringing together fundraising, marketing and communications expertise to strengthen our financial sustainability, broaden our audience and enable more people to experience the transformative power of humour and a zest for life.

Primary responsibilities

The job holder will have the following key responsibilities:

Strategy & Responsibility

  • Develop and lead an agile, multi-channel fundraising and marketing strategy, translating ROTE NASEN’s mission and ambitions into clear priorities, sustainable income streams and measurable impact.
  • Bring a broad understanding of fundraising channels and tactics, including direct mail, telemarketing, face-to-face/door-to-door, digital and other individual giving channels relevant in Germany, and ensure they work together effectively across the supporter journey – from acquisition and conversion through to retention, reactivation, regular giving, and donor upgrades.
  • Ensure that philanthropic and other resources are deployed strategically and effectively, always in service of our social mission.

Innovation & Growth

  • Identify emerging trends, new opportunities and innovative approaches across digital, individual and corporate fundraising.
  • Test and scale new ideas, diversify revenue streams and unlock opportunities to extend the reach and impact of ROTE NASEN’s social and artistic work.

Leadership & Development

  • Lead, inspire and develop a talented team of eight, creating clarity around priorities and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous learning. With empathy, openness and a good sense of humour, empower the team to perform at its best and bring fresh ideas to the organization.

Budget & Performance

  • Take overall responsibility for the fundraising and marketing budget, using data, KPIs and insight to guide decisions, evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Bring financial discipline and strategic focus, with a constant eye on sustainable growth and maximizing impact.

Collaboration & Representation

  • As a member of the wider leadership team, you will work closely with the Managing Director and Artistic Director, as well as colleagues across Communications and Finance, to ensure a joined-up approach to organizational growth and impact.

Externally, you will represent ROTE NASEN with donors, partners, funders and other key stakeholders, building relationships that strengthen our profile, influence and long-term sustainability.

Requirements:

The following offers an aspirational view of our ideal candidate profile; however, we encourage applications from candidates with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds, especially those from underrepresented groups.

Experience

  • Several years’ experience in a senior role in fundraising, marketing or a similar field – ideally in the non-profit sector.
  • A strong understanding of the German fundraising market and experience with agile methods.
  • Excellent knowledge of digital and individual fundraising, complemented by experience with corporate partnerships, bequests and foundations.
  • Enjoy working with data, structure and strategy, keep a close eye on budgets and manage initiatives in a data-driven manner based on analyses of fundraising channels, as well as relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) and return on investment (ROI).
  • An understanding of business administration and contract law is desirable.
  • Clear and participatory leadership style: you build trust and foster a sense of appreciation, take different perspectives into account and promote an open, learning-oriented team culture. Self-reflection comes naturally to you.
  • Excellent, business-level proficiency in both German and English.
  • Willingness to travel, including to the annual International Fundraising Conference (IFC).
  • A clean criminal record.
  • An understanding of the health and social care sectors is an advantage; but even more important to us are your openness, your warmth and your enthusiasm for learning new things.
  • You treat others with respect, curiosity and humour, and can laugh at yourself.
