The Tenure Facility is the first and only international financial mechanism exclusively focused on securing land and forest rights for Indigenous Peoples and local communities across the developing world. We provide grants and technical assistance to scale up the implementation of land and forest tenure reform policies, enabling sustainable rural development, addressing global climate goals, and reducing local conflicts.
Purpose of Role
We are seeking two Financial Controllers to join our team. As a Project Controller, you will be the primary resource for financial internal control and financial capacity building of our projects and partners. You'll work closely with the Project Team and other Controllers, reporting directly to the CFO.
Primary Responsibilities
The job holder will have the following key responsibilities:
Financial Analysis and Risk Management
- Analyze and assess grant budgets in project proposals.
- Perform risk assessments of partners' financial management and internal control.
- Participate in quality assurance of project proposals and agreement preparation.
- Monitor risks and ensure appropriate mitigation and support measures.
Financial Reporting and Audits
- Monitor and analyze financial reports from project partners.
- Ensure project partners' financial reporting integrates into Tenure Facility's aggregated reporting.
- Assess project partners' audit reports and address identified issues.
Capacity Building and Compliance
- Coordinate capacity building within partner organisations on internal control, organisational management, and financial issues.
- Evaluate fund usage compliance with signed agreements.
- Ensure adherence to internal control regulations and anti-corruption policies.
- Provide training and advice on financial management and anti-corruption.
Partner Support and Knowledge Transfer
- Advise partners throughout the project cycle, from budget analysis to financial administration.
- Conduct in-country visits for capacity building and direct support.
- Coordinate activities among individual partners and groups of partners within the Controller team.
Experience and Skills
Experience
- Previous experience as a Project Controller in NGO/CSO organisations with an international focus.
- Strong background in financial management, with a focus on using finance as an enabler rather than just a control function.
- Experience in capacity building and knowledge transfer.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel for in-country visits to project partners.
Skills
- Advanced proficiency in financial accounting and reporting.
- Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
- Experience with grant management and donor reporting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Knowledge of risk management and internal control processes.
- Fluent in English and/or Spanish/Portuguese.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with international development finance.
- Experience working in or with developing countries.
- Knowledge of land rights and environmental issues.
- Proficiency in an indigenous language.
