The Global Methane Hub is the first global philanthropic platform working to reduce methane emissions across energy, agriculture, and waste sectors. GMH manages approximately $100M annually in grant funding and supports initiatives across multiple regions worldwide. Our grantmaking focuses on the highest emitting sectors and regions with a team spread out in six continents and is headquartered in Santiago, Chile. GMH operates through a Netherlands Stichting and is currently transitioning from a fiscal sponsor structure to an independent organization.
Purpose of role
The Financial Accountant at the Global Methane Hub is responsible for the statutory accounting and financial reporting for the Netherlands Stichting and supports the accounting operations of GMH’s global activities. Reporting to the Finance Lead, and working closely with the CFAO, the Financial Accountant oversees day-to-day accounting operations, maintains relationships with external auditors and tax advisors, ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations across jurisdictions, and supports financial reporting.
Job responsibilities
The job holder will have the following key responsibilities:
Accounting Operations
- Manage the general ledger and ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes for all entities, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Support multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions where needed.
- Ensure accurate accounting for grant income, project expenditure, and donor restrictions.
Compliance and Statutory Reporting
- Prepare statutory financial statements for the Netherlands Stichting in accordance with Dutch accounting standards and foundation regulations.
- Ensure compliance with ANBI requirements and Dutch regulatory obligations.
- Coordinate with external advisors to support compliance requirements in jurisdictions where GMH operates.
- Support VAT compliance and coordinate with Dutch tax advisors where required.
- Ensure financial reporting and accounting practices align with donor restrictions, grant agreements, and fiscal sponsor requirements.
- Support financial reporting related to grant-funded projects and donor requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails.
Payroll and International Operations
- Coordinate with payroll providers and Employer of Record partners to ensure payroll costs are accurately recorded and reconciled across various jurisdictions
- Support accounting for international operations and multi-country activities
Systems and Process Improvement
- Maintain the chart of accounts and accounting system configuration.
- Support improvements to accounting policies, procedures, workflows, systems and internal controls.
- Ensure accurate data integration between accounting system and other GMH systems, such as the grant management system (Fluxx) and other financial tools.
- Collaborate with other finance team members on budget vs. actual analysis, variance explanations, and financial forecasting.
- Provide technical accounting guidance to team members on complex transactions or accounting treatment questions.

Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- At least 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for accounting operations and financial reporting.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including experience preparing statutory financial statements in the Netherlands under Dutch GAAP.
- Experience supporting Dutch tax compliance, including VAT administration and coordination with tax advisors.
- Experience supporting external audits and working with auditors.
- Proficiency with accounting software or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems; experience with cloud-based financial systems preferred
- Strong understanding of internal controls, reconciliations, and accounting processes.
- Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to explain complex accounting concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Fluency in English (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed team environment across multiple time zones
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with colleagues
- Are passionate about being part of the climate change solution.
Preferred
- Professional accounting qualification (RA, AA, or equivalent).
- Experience in the non-profit, foundation, or philanthropic sector highly valued.
- Experience with Stichting governance requirements or similar nonprofit structures.
- Knowledge of ANBI regulations and public accountability requirements.
- Experience with multi-entity or international organizations, including coordination across jurisdictions.
- Familiarity with international accounting standards (IFRS or US GAAP).
- Experience supporting larger organizations or complex operations (e.g., organizations with significant budgets or multiple entities).
- Experience working with cloud-based accounting systems or modern financial technology platforms.
- Dutch language skills.
Salary
$80K - $115K USD. Geographic differential will be applied based on location. Candidates must have the right to work in the country from which they are applying. For Netherlands-based candidates, compensation will be offered in EUR under a Netherlands employment contract aligned with the Dutch Market.
Terms and conditions
- This will be a full-time (40 hours/week) remote role and will require considerable time flexibility in order to support and collaborate with staff and stakeholders in multiple time zones. The position supervisor is in the GMT +0/+1 time zone.
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally (~10%).
