Our work is made possible through funding from various sources, including government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals.

Description:

MMV seeks an innovative Chief Strategy Officer to spearhead and manage the implementation of our 2024-2030 strategy and drive forward MMV’s contributions to the Big Push 2030—a global initiative to eliminate malaria within the decade. In this role, you will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and serve as a key member of MMV’s Executive Leadership Team. You will coordinate cross-functional strategies, integrate diverse initiatives, and ensure that our mission is advanced through high-impact activities aligned with changing global health needs.

Requirements:

Key responsibilities:

Strategic leadership, vision and agility

  • Shape, drive and refine MMV’s long-term strategy in partnership with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, maintaining an agile approach to address evolving global health challenges.
  • Lead key initiatives under MMV’s 2024-2030 plan, especially those aligned with the Big Push 2030 objectives, and beyond.
  • Advance essential cross-functional strategic priorities, including equitable partnerships, gender equity, and climate considerations. Ensure these priorities align with funder expectations and are seamlessly integrated across MMV’s strategy, with clear, measurable goals established to track progress.
  • Stay attuned to global geopolitical and funding landscapes, adjusting MMV’s strategy as needed.
  • Proactively identify and address new opportunities and emerging challenges in the global health environment, recalibrating priorities as needed.

Cross-functional alignment and integration

  • Ensure cohesive alignment across all divisions, harmonizing strategies in research, advocacy, funding, and communications into a unified vision.
  • Act as the primary architect for cross-departmental collaboration, reinforcing MMV’s multidisciplinary approach to malaria eradication.

Executive leadership and strategic advising

  • Serve as the CEO’s strategic partner, advising on key decisions and fostering effective communication across leadership levels.
  • Manage the CEO’s office initiatives and support high-level engagements, including strategic retreats and board meetings.
  • Align MMV’s external engagement strategy with our mission and advocacy goals, in collaboration with External Affairs.

Business planning, monitoring, and evaluation

  • Oversee business planning in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer, ensuring investments align with strategic priorities.
  • Develop and mentor a team focused on portfolio management, monitoring, and evaluation, and provide data-driven insights to guide executive decisions.

Stakeholder engagement and external representation

Build and sustain relationships with external stakeholders, representing MMV and advocating for our mission at global health forums and events.

Qualifications:

Education and experience:

  • Master’s degree in business management, public health, life sciences, or a related field (MBA preferred), or demonstrated equivalent experience, with a deep understanding of global health and drug development.
  • 15+ years of experience in strategy development and executive-level decision-making, with a track record of managing complex initiatives.
  • Proven leadership in driving organizational change within matrixed environments, with strong skills in influencing, prioritizing, and delivering impactful strategic work
