Approximately 50 million people suffer from sepsis every year, with approximately 13,7 million succumbing to the illness. Nevertheless, sepsis is practically unknown to the general public. The Global Sepsis Alliance (GSA), established in 2010, is a non-profit charitable organisation established with the mission of providing global leadership to reduce the worldwide burden of sepsis. At this stage in the fight against sepsis, professional leadership and greater support for the front-line efforts of our Regional Alliances are essential. From experience, we know that our ultimate success will be highly dependent on efforts to educate government officials, healthcare workers, and the general public.
GSA has created the new role of Chief Executive Officer to lead us into the next era. Alongside members of the GSA Board, the incoming Chief Executive will represent GSA externally, engaging with stakeholders, governments, NGOs and patient groups to advocate for sepsis awareness and ensure sepsis is recognised as a global health threat. They will be tasked with increasing the reputation and recognition of GSA globally, as well as fundraising and resource mobilisation.
The successful candidate will bring energy, drive and compassion to the role. They will have experience working in a vibrant and fast paced environment, with a wide range of stakeholders. They will be comfortable engaging with senior leaders across global organisations and governments. Fundraising and resource mobilisation is a core element of this role, and experience in this is essential. The new CEO will possess an inclusive leadership style, a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a strong desire to effect positive change, both within GSA and beyond.

Global Sepsis Alliance promotes and champions equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We are committed to inclusive recruitment and strive to remove bias relating to age, social background, disability (including hidden disabilities), gender, gender identity or gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity/paternity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.
We particularly welcome applications from members of hitherto underrepresented groups in leadership positions including women, people of colour, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, LGBTQIA+ candidates and candidates with disabilities because we would like to increase the representation of these groups on a leadership level at Global Sepsis Alliance. We do this because we know that welcoming and encouraging different perspectives as well as providing a level playing field for people from all backgrounds to enable everyone to realise their full potential will lead to even greater results for Global Sepsis Alliance’s mission.
