Mission

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. MAP is the leading UK charity delivering health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation and displacement, in the occupied Palestinian territory and Lebanon.

Job Purpose

Develop, direct and deliver MAP’s international fundraising strategy to accelerate the growth of fundraising across Major Donors, Corporates, Trusts and Foundations and Institutional income stream to achieve long term, sustainable income growth in international (non-UK) markets and in particular from the Middle East, the US and Institutional donors.

Duties and key responsibilities

Strategy and planning

  • Strategic planning - lead the development and implementation of a MAP’s international fundraising strategy that underpins strategic goals to accelerate income growth in a sustainable manner across major donors, corporates, trust and foundations and institutional fundraising.
  • Budget responsibility - prepare and manage the international fundraising budget & forecast in line with agreed targets.
  • Brand development for new markets - lead the development of a strong brand identity to generate recognition and support from a new audience.
  • Creative direction - drive creative development of fundraising communications to attract interest from target audiences across different markets.
  • Statutory and best practice compliance - ensure that charity law, data protection, fundraising regulations are adhered to.

Operational Management

  • Donor prospecting - lead on research and develop international fundraising approaches to recruit new donor groups.
  • Major Giving - develop and strengthen relationships with major donors, high profile supporters, trusts, foundations, companies and institutions.
  • Cultivation Fundraising Events - develop bespoke intimate events to maximise opportunities for donor engagement.
  • Supporter Care - ensure the highest standard of supporter care and donor stewardship for international donors.
  • New Global Markets (non-UK) – identify and research new fundraising markets.
  • Develop high-impact and innovative donor acquisition campaigns to drive growth.

Candidate requirements

Experience 

  • At least 5 years of experience working at a senior level in fundraising for an international organization or not-for-profit organization with a proven track record delivering fundraising goals across different markets.
  • Understanding and experience of working internationally and in more than one market.
  • Extensive relevant experience and a proven track record of delivery of income growth across multiple fundraising channels.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of fundraising through major donors, trusts and foundations, corporates, institutions (EU, ECHO, UN, Gulf Development Funds).
  • Proven experience of producing successful proposals for large scale projects.
  • Experience of planning, prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish.
  • Experience working directly in supporting New Market Entry and Set-up.
  • Experience of and ability to visit new countries to do groundwork where required, especially set-up of country fundraising operations e.g. Meetings with local authorities to get paperwork in place, working through data and donation requirements, setting up bank accounts, submitting local document regulations paperwork etc.
  • Experience setting up new operations and establishing processes from scratch is desirable.
  • Experience of relational databases and of analysing and presenting data to make informed decisions.

  • Problem solving in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot difficult situations, and deal with them calmly, diplomatically efficiently and effectively
  • IT skills at a level that supports report writing, email, internet and database     
  • Adaptability and flexibility in being able to take on new roles and manage a range of different internal and external relationships.

Knowledge 

  • In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of charity law, fundraising regulations, standards and best practice.
  • High level of competence in CRM software.
  • Commitment to maintaining standards to promote trust and confidence in MAP’s fundraising initiatives.
  • An understanding of the work of MAP and the issues facing Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.
