The Opportunity

Save the Children is launching its ambitious 2019 – 2021 strategic plan with the goal of significantly increasing funding, with a focus on unrestricted funds, a main priority in the strategy. Both acquiring leads and converting them, through online and offline channels, are key to delivering to the strategy both to diversify our acquisition channels and to build an increasing supporter base of individuals contributing to the organization through their voice and other forms of non-financial support as well as their donations. Therefore, it is a priority for National Save the Children Member Organizations (internally called “Members”) to add to the expertise in the international team to support the growth in this channel.

This role sits within the Global Fundraising Hub Team, headquartered in London, which provides strategic support and specialist technical guidance to our 27+ Members in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America.

This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious Lead generation and conversion specialist to join our international team and bring about a change in the way Save the Children attracts, inspires and engages our supporters, who are critical to achieve our ambitions for children.

There is a possibility of working remotely for this role and travel approximately for 20% of time.


Job description

Key areas of accountability:

  • Work closely with relevant Digital Practitioners and Regional Heads of Market Development to develop and implement strategies to attract, engage and maximise the value of new and existing lead databases to Save the Children with a priority on driving unrestricted income
  • Help to design and manage lead acquisition and conversion processes, platforms and systems to create a best in class supporter experience and maximise income.
  • Work with local markets to identify, engage and manage external partners and suppliers
  • Support on and monitor performance of the investment in lead generation and conversion across markets
  • Build preparedness plans to respond to advocacy emergencies and be on hand to support a rapid scale up lead acquisition activities in the event of an advocacy emergency
  • In coordination with other specialist at the Global Fundraising Hub, other SCI departments and global units, assist Members developing multichannel supporter journeys.
  • Provide direct ad-hoc support on lead generation and conversion related activities as required
  • Work alongside Member Growth Regional Heads of Market Development and digital/lead generation practitioners in key markets to identify needs, gaps and opportunities.
  • Help agree and establish global standards, principles, governance and risk management
  • Provide a central point for knowledge management and sharing to improve the expertise and quality of lead generation and conversion across Save the Children.
  • Work with the Member Growth Data Analyst and all participating fundraising markets to collect, analyse and disseminate results for a bi-annual benchmark to key stakeholders. Complete the exercise on behalf of selected members
  • Help to establish shared lead generation and conversion KPIs and benchmarks (both internal and external)
  • Responsible for keeping up to date the knowledge sharing platform on the international intranet
  • Support in agency selection (creative, media and telemarketing and fulfilment) and oversight. Advise on negotiations and optimization of the relationships.
  • Be the international expert on lead generation and conversion developments both internally and externally in order to share key learnings with markets who could benefit from that knowledge
  • Keep up to date with relevant trends and use of the channel in the commercial and non-for-profit sector and harness this to inspire and bring about advances in Save the Children’s lead generation and conversion programmes.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder may be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

This role will involve the opportunity to travel to support the set up and development of lead generation and conversion programmes in new markets as well as more established fundraising markets.

Candidate requirements

In order to be successful you will bring/have:


  • Demonstrable experience designing and implementing lead generation and conversion programs (ideally within an international INGO). Proven success in delivering these programmes with demonstrated financial results.
  • Fluent in English, additional language skills would be an asset
  • Capacity to build and maintain excellent relations and to work effectively in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment respecting diversity


  • Experience working in a support role to a diverse range of fundraising markets
  • A solid understanding and experience running Paid Social, Search and Display campaigns.
  • Experience implementing Google Analytics (including E-commerce module) and analysing the data provided by this tool.
  • Experience integrating digital with Telemarketing
  • Proven project management skills delivering complex projects on time and on budget with a strong knowledge of all the financial aspects of digital fundraising/marketing including analysis of costs/income, ROI, conversion and attrition data and all other relevant KPIs.
  • Strong personal, organisational and self-management skills; with an ability to lead and work in teams and motivate others
  • A self-starter using initiative to see opportunities to achieve objectives in this role
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong IT skills particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
  • Ability to articulate the work of Save the Children with passion
  • A willingness to travel to support members directly or to relevant events as required.
