VP, Leadership Programs

Mozilla Foundation

Background

Mozilla exists to guard the open nature of the internet and to ensure it remains a public resource, open and accessible to all.

Founded as a community open source project in 1998, Mozilla currently consists of two organizations: the Mozilla Foundation, which leads work for the environmental movement for the internet; and its wholly owned subsidiary, the Mozilla Corporation, which makes Firefox and leads the market-based work. The two organizations work together and with a global community of tens of thousands of volunteers under the single banner: Mozilla. Through its movement building work, the Mozilla Foundation wants internet health to become a mainstream issue that citizens, governments and companies cannot afford to ignore, just like they cannot ignore the environment.

In pursuit of this goal, the Mozilla Foundation is currently focused on three strategies:

  1. Shaping the agenda and making internet health a mainstream, global issue;
  2. Connecting and supporting leaders who are building and advocating for a healthy internet;
  3. Rallying citizens to make more conscious choices and holding companies and governments accountable.

Job description

As part of its ‘connect leaders’ strategy, Mozilla runs three initiatives: a fellowships and awards program; a virtual think tank centered around the annual Internet Health Report; and MozFest, the annual gathering and celebration of the internet health movement. We are seeking a VP, Leadership Programs who will bring these initiatives to the next level, build Mozilla’s profile as a global community of leaders championing the health of the internet and enhancing progress on issues like privacy, decentralization and digital inclusion. We want to grow the global reach of our leadership development programs — and, in turn, increase the global scope and diversity of our community.

The next VP, Leadership Programs will define and implement a strategy with clear goals to achieve the growth and evolution of these three major initiatives. S/he will lead and coach a strong team dedicated to successfully implementing this strategy and fulfilling Mozilla’s vision. Our VP, Leadership Programs will also be a strong public profile in the realm of internet issues and will help to set an agenda for the challenges Mozilla and the network will tackle in the future.

Candidate requirements

If you are aligned with our mission and bring a rare combination of experience and skill: an understanding of internet issues; a passion for building networks and empowering others to lead; and a proven track record as a senior organizational leader who builds great teams, then we want to hear from you.
