 Compassion in World Farming has embarked on an ambitious global fundraising growth strategy that seeks to double gross income worldwide by 2021/22. Our fundraising vision is a Compassion in World Farming global network with diversified, sustainable and growing income from an increasing number of markets and audiences – which deliver income required to achieve our overarching strategic goals for the coming years.

This new post will complete the Global Major Giving team at our HQ which engages with Major Donors, Trusts and Foundations and Corporates. This established and energetic team that has achieved a truly transformational growth curve is looking for a senior Trust and Foundation specialist to take on the larger Trust and Foundation relationships – internationally.

You’ll need gravitas to be equally confident in writing an inspirational case for support as well as pitching to new contacts. In addition, you’ll need to have an inquisitive mind and check on timelines, milestones and budgets relevant to your portfolio so to keep internal communications flowing and donors informed.

 Job Title: International Trusts and Foundations Fundraising Specialist

 MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The purpose of this role is to help Compassion in World Farming end factory farming.  This role will contribute by engaging with Trusts and Foundations globally. With ambitious targets and a small international team, this specialist role will focus on Trusts and Foundations internationally and those who are able to contribute £/$50k+. In addition, you will contribute to our engagement with the wider portfolio of major institutional funders and High Net Worth Individuals.

This is an exciting time to join the growing and successful global Major Gifts team at Compassion. Annual income from major philanthropic partners has grown from £330,000 in 2012/13 to in excess of £3.5m in 2017/18. You will report into the International Head of Major Giving and work in a dynamic team that has driven the recent growth in this area for Compassion. 

You will drive an innovative and entrepreneurial way of working across borders, proactively raise funds from Trusts and Foundations in our European markets and collaborating with our Partnership Manager in the US.

This role is responsible for developing new relationships internationally – and ensuring current relationships stay on track. – mentoring local staff to implement the strategy and continuously test and improve on.

POSITION IN ORGANISATION

  • A key role within the International Major Giving team
  • Reports to the International Head of Major Giving
  • Works in close collaboration with the HQ Mission Delivery, CEO Office and Finance Team
  • Works closely with national fundraising staff in key markets such as USA, France, UK, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, and Spain.

 SCOPE OF JOB

1. MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF CURRENT TRUSTS AND FOUNDATIONS GLOBALLY (£/$50K+) (c. 20%)

  • Management of the medium to large sized Trusts and Foundations programme globally
  • Ensure timely sound reporting to funders
  • Undertake research into prospective funders and create opportunities for successful bids Track progress against targets (budget and milestones) between the relevant Mission Delivery and Finance Team.

 2. EXPANDING THE TRUST AND FOUNDATION PROGRAMME GLOBALLY (£/$50K+) – FORGING NEW RELATIONSHIPS (30%)

  • Research opportunities in our current EU markets as well as potential new markets
  • Maximise the opportunities of our expanded work portfolio to include environmental impacts of factory farming
  • Work with, (and occasionally mentor and coach) Heads of and/or staff at our other offices to help see and seize opportunities (events, research, networks)
  • Some international travel and attendance of events involved.

3. DEVELOPMENT OF COMPELLING FUNDING PROPOSALS; CASES FOR SUPPORT AND IMPACT REPORTS (30%)

  • Maintenance of appropriate and accurate records for contact with donors and prospects (including awards); financial reporting and evaluation purposes
  • Development of compelling funding proposals, cases for support and impact reports
  • Work with free-lance specialists writers

4. ADDITIONAL TASKS

To assist with other departmental duties where necessary, as listed below:

  • Contributes to wider Major Gifts activity and the overall success of the team
  • Due to the nature of the role, there may be a requirement to carry out some work out of office hours.  This work is to be arranged in accordance with procedures
  • Take due and reasonable care of oneself and others in respect of Health & Safety at Work
  • Act in accordance with the principles of Compassion in World Farming’s Ethical Policy
  • In all work activities, comply with data protection legislation and Compassion in World Farming’s requirements for the protection of personal information and the privacy of individuals
  • Provide formal and informal training at the request of your line manager, senior manager or a director, on your areas of expertise, to other members of staff, work experience students, trustees etc.

DIMENSIONS & LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

  • Meeting annual Trust income targets within agreed expenditure limits (targets to be set but will be around £800k initially)
  • Managing the medium to large-sized Trust portfolio (i.e. those capable of making grants of over £50,000 per annum) and acting as key contact within Compassion
  • Supporting Major Gifts team activity as a whole by:
  • carrying out research
  • bid writing
  • contributing to events
  • donor communications
  • preparing briefings, research and reports for team members, Directors etc.
  • Responsible for meeting targets and growing income year on year
  • Responsible for managing expenditure budgets of c. £30k per annum
  • Key point of contact between Compassion in World Farming and key suppliers.
