Daryl Upsall & Associates SL (DUA) is expanding its international consulting team to be able to meet the ever-growing demand for its services from national and international no-profit organisations. We are looking to expand our pool of freelance consultants and professionals with specialist skills, specific national and international professional fundraising and strategic planning and management experience.

About us

Daryl Upsall & Associates is one of the world’s most respected international fundraising consultancies, offering a comprehensive range of services to the not for profit sector. We have worked with more than 250 different clients, in over 40 countries including some of the best known international NPOs, major UN agencies, national charities, cultural institutions and universities from all around the world.

We carry out a wide range of consulting projects, including fundraising market assessment studies, fundraising programme reviews, strategy development and capacity building. Our clients include international NPOs, and major UN agencies worldwide.

To apply you must have a minimum of 10 years fundraising experience in different roles and organisations including at least 3 years in a senior or management position that carries significant budgetary and staff management responsibility. Previous experience working as a fundraising consultant is an added value. 

We recognise that when you read below you may not be able to meet 100% of the requirements outlined above. If that is the case, we are still interested in hearing from you if you are at least 75% of the way there or simply highly specialised in one fundraising channel or market.

Candidate requirements

Skills required

  • Highly fluent in written and spoken English with strong listening and communication skills. Able to confidently gather information, write clear and convincing observations and recommendations as well as the ability to facilitate and present them to a senior client audience.
  • Have a strong knowledge, command of and working experience of the best current practices and techniques in fundraising/marketing.
  • High level of research and analytical skills, with the capacity to find, read, review and process high volumes of data and information in a relatively short time and draw observations and recommendations from this process.
  • Display strong organizational skills and ability to work accurately in a highly detailed work and occasionally pressured professional environment and to work autonomously/remotely and as part of a team.
  • Ability to apply excellent project management skills and the coordination a variety of stakeholders across different technical areas to meet tight deadlines and budgets. Focus on setting high standards for the quality of work to be delivered to clients.
  • Computer literacy in all MS Office applications; ability to use a range of online and offline CRM, technology and communications tools as well as social media for professional purposes.

Additional valuable skills, but not essential

  • Proven track record in the development of strategies and/or budgeting/financial modelling that work
  • Capacity and willingness to travel nationally and internationally up to 20-25% of the time if needed
  • Experience in developing and pitching business proposals to clients or corporate partners

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge and experience of fundraising in different markets around the world and the challenges and opportunities that exist in these markets.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the non-profit sector at an international level in fundraising and marketing and non-profit sector management issues.
  • Specific fundraising experience with one or more of the main global income channels such as:
    • Individual giving (i.e. across face to face, DRTV, telephone, digital, direct mail etc.)
    • Major donors/high net worth individuals
    • Corporate partnerships
    • Foundations and trusts
    • Legacy and planned giving
    • Institutional fundraising
