Job description

The Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) section within the Private Fundraising & Partnerships (PFP) works with National Committees and UNICEF regional and country offices to maximize income and drive income growth globally.  

Within the PSFR, the Global Philanthropy (GP) team serves the global strategic lead for fundraising and partnerships with High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) and Foundations. At the same time, PFP has established Regional Support Centres (RSC) in UNICEF Regional Offices, including East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) to provide integrated strategic oversight, support and guidance to UNICEF fundraising teams in designated PSFR countries in each region.  

The RSCs collaborate with independent UNICEF National Committees, which may be located in their region. 

The job will be managed in a matrix arrangement, formally reporting to the Chief, Global Philanthropy, in Geneva, whilst also being fully embedded and collaborating closely with the RSC team in Bangkok, and having a “dotted line” reporting accountability to the EAPRO Chief, Private Sector Fundraising. 

The post-holder will thus significantly contribute to the delivery of the annual workplan of both the Global Philanthropy and EAPRO RSC teams, taking responsibility for driving growth towards global strategy targets.   As a member of the RSC team and GP team respectively, the post-holder will have particular responsibilities to ensure effective communication, strong collaboration, and to seek alignment on priorities.  

Additionally, the post-holder will directly supervise a Partnerships Specialist (Global Philanthropy) also embedded in the RSC in Bangkok. The EAPRO RSC also supports PSFR activity in South Asia, and the post-holder will also engage in this area, which is part of the UNICEF ROSA Region.

How can you make a difference? 

 1. HNWI Prospect Identification and Cultivation

 Collaborating with GP team, RSC and countries across the region to develop high value and realistic prospect list of HNWI potential donors in EAPRO with key attributes of Ability, Accessibility, and Affinity.

Develop and action cultivation plans for prospects engaging participation of CO and RO leadership and programme heads.  

Accountability for realization of HNWI income goals for EAPRO.

2. Foundation Engagement

In line with Global Foundation strategy, and collaborating effectively with Geneva, and New York based foundation officers (notably Senior Advisor, Global Philanthropy in New York) and local countries, engage key private foundations in EAPRO through dialogue, consultations and events, leading where appropriate to the development and negotiation of bespoke high value foundation partnerships.

Accountability for effective engagement of designated priority foundations, contributing to realization of global foundation income targets.

3. Philanthropic Partnership Relationship Management

Support relationship management activities for global philanthropic partners led by GP team, and act as focal point for relationship management activities with EAPRO and ROSA based philanthropic partners, supporting realization of global HNWI and foundation  income targets.

4. Financial Innovation

Collaborate with Geneva-based Partnerships Manager (Financial Innovation Lab), in the development and marketing of Financial Innovation products adapted for EAPRO, supporting realization of global HWNI and foundation income targets.

5. Strategic Philanthropic Resource to RSC team in market development

Provide strategic input and support to EAPRO Chief, Private Sector Fundraising and RSC team in market development and planning for philanthropy within EAPRO, including support and input on recruitment, strategic planning, integrated regional campaigns.

6. 
Supervision of Partnership Specialist (Global Philanthropy)

Undertake supervision of Partnership Specialist in support of above goals, and additional responsibility for regional capacity building in philanthropy.

Candidate requirements

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced university degree in international affairs, development, journalism, finance, public or business administration or closely related fields required.
  • A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • Minimum eight years’ progressively senior experience in philanthropic fundraising. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in direct relationship cultivation and management of high value philanthropic partnerships (in excess of $10 million)
  • Related work experience in East Asia and the Pacific region a valuable asset
  • Familiarity with and exposure to UNICEF programmes are highly desirable.
  • Fluency in English - with excellent written skills - is required.  Fluency in Asian language(s) is considered as an asset.
