ActionAid is embarking on an exciting period of fundraising growth with the launch of a new Global Funding Strategy with plans to expand into new fundraising markets globally through new and innovative investment strategies. This is a new and key role within the Global Fundraising Team, responsible for managing ActionAid’s fundraising investment fund and oversight of ActionAid’s fundraising investment models across Individual Giving, Philanthropy and Partnerships (High Value) and Institutional Funding. This role also includes leading on the market insight and scoping of new market and donor opportunities across the ActionAid funding spectrum, to guide organisational decisions on the development and expansion of fundraising as well as providing oversight and ensuring compliance of all fundraising investment models.

Primary responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Functional and general management contribution to the fundraising leadership team taking a whole GS and Federation perspective.

Delivery on Strategic Priorities

• Manage fundraising investments and delegations, ensuring fair, transparent processes are followed in the allocation of resources.

•  Support members to access the Fundraising Investment Fund, advising countries on the criteria and process for applications.

•  Facilitate sponsor host/fundraising delegations through the management of a transparent Expression of Interest process.

•   Develop appropriate business case application forms and reporting templates to ensure appropriate KPIs and results captured and measured.

•  With the support of the Global Insight & Funding Analyst and technical experts, ensure Senior Management and the Board have the information required to make informed and strategic decisions about Federation investments and delegations.

• Oversee the relevant Fundraising Policies, ensuring member understanding and compliance.

Oversee AAI’s Fundraising Investment Fund and sponsor host/fundraising and donor delegations, ensuring they drive fundraising growth and contribute to the delivery of the Funding Strategy 2028:

• Keep up to date with activities and plans through regular meetings with investment recipients and delegation managers, bringing in technical experts when required to provide advice/solve problems.

• Proactively advise and input on the progress of activities against plans and strategy, identifying areas of potential risk and opportunity.

• Monitor investment and delegation performance, ensuring compliance with all deed of gifts conditions, delegation MOU’s and organisational planning and reporting processes. Raise non-compliance where necessary.

•  Working with the Global Insight & Funding Analyst, prepare investment performance reports and risk analysis for the FLT and International Board.

Develop the fundraising capability of staff, across ActionAid’s fundraising investment portfolio to maximize income and ensure effective investment spend:

•  Play a key role in the recruitment process/selection/appointment of senior fundraising staff who will be managing investments.

•   Mentor and coach fundraisers managing investments, providing technical expertise and strategic guidance as needed or coordinate support with other technical expertise such as institutional funding if appropriate.

•  Co-ordinate a peer to peer learning and capacity development programme for investment recipients, encouraging bilateral working and contributing to the professional development of fundraisers.

Line/matrix manage specific federation investments, where no sponsor/host is managing the programme:

•  Provide comprehensive and effective management support to line/matrix reports to maximise staff potential and enable fundraising investments to flourish.

•  Deliver intensive support to recipient counties, guiding the development of strategies and operational plans.

•  Work with Senior Management and Board members in country to build a solid understanding of fundraising and their responsibilities and role to support fundraising investment.

Drive the expansion programme, through the identification and scoping of new market or donor opportunities:

• Analyse external trends and growth opportunities, to ensure AAI is thinking ahead to future investment opportunities and growth potential.

• Network internationally to keep pace with international developments and engage with other INGOs to benchmark fundraising performance.

• Commission external research and market scoping and liaise closely with members undertaking this on behalf of the Federation.

• Provide market analysis and risk assessments on potential market entry models and propositions.

Candidate requirements

Required skills and experience

You must have demonstrable experience of the different funding streams; significant experience as a successful fundraising manager, solid experience of acquiring and managing a base of regular giving supporters, with proven expertise in various fundraising techniques including digital fundraising, exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills across cultures, with the ability to motivate, inspire and lead others.

Strong problem solving and strategic thinking skills with experience of and an aptitude for strategic planning and excellent analysis skills and experience of assessing funding performance across a broad range of income streams are necessary.

Desirable skills and experience

• Experience in funding streams across international markets and setting up and supporting start-up operations.

Education, Language and Qualifications

• Relevant degree or similar qualification

• Fluency in English both written and verbal
